I stumbled across Swirl Wine Store while getting a short tour of Maple Ridge with a friend who knows the area well. This store is one of 21 B.C. VQA-designated wine stores in British Columbia. VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) is an approved system that guarantees specific standards for Canadian wines.
What the founder of Swirl Wine Store, Jeff Wong, has done extremely well is to create a fantastic customer experience in an amazingly engaging and intimate environment.
Swirl Wine Store – with three locations in the Lower Mainland – carries more than 600 B.C. wines, many of which come from some of this province’s most unique wineries.
Walking into Swirl Wine Store is like walking into an art gallery for wine lovers. The packaging of many of these products is incredibly creative and engaging. I was particularly drawn to the assortment of wines from Dirty Laundry vineyard. Their Pinot Gris had a wooden clothes peg hanging off each bottle with a piece of brown twine.
My friend and I were able to do some wine tasting, as the store often has a featured vineyard of the week. There are many wines on sale to rope you into trying something new, and the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.
I think Swirl Wine Store is definitely a winner. They have done a great job of carving out a niche with a true essence of customer engagement as their number one priority.
