Evolve or Evaporate
When I was researching Justin Bieber for the last Quick Tip, I discovered an interview with singer/performer Usher, who signed Bieber to his record label. Usher was asked about his role as a mentor to Bieber. He talked about the importance of constantly evolving in terms of music and brand in Bieber’s career and his own.
Usher then said; “if we don’t evolve, we evaporate.” I believe this to be true for all enterprises whether it’s a performer like Madonna, who has recreated herself over and over again since the early 1980s, or you, the business owner who wants to keep your business profitable and growing.
Like some of the top revenue-generating performers of this decade, our priority is to stay ahead of the curve by constantly evolving to our fans’ changing needs over time. What worked five years ago as a solid business model has likely changed. We need to change with it. Not just adapt, but actually change. Those business owners who are willing to do this tend to remain relevant, profitable and growing.
Like Bieber, who has many mentors to guide him and dust him off after he falls, we also need to have peers who can provide this type of support so we can evolve fully.
