The Fluevog Experience

I have a difficult time finding shoes that fit me well so I dread shoe shopping. Yes, I know this is unusual for a woman to not like shopping for shoes!

Since I wanted something casual, a friend recommended John Fluevog Shoes on Granville Street in Vancouver. Cynical, yet open to finding something just right for me and having 45 minutes to accomplish this objective, I made a beeline for the closest salesperson and asked for help.

Kristin Tyluk was truly amazing. Within 15 minutes I knew which shoes I was buying and simply had to decide between two pairs based on a slight difference in the texture and colour of the leather.

Not only was I thrilled with the level of customer service; I was impressed with what followed. Firstly, I was given an extra pair of shoelaces (how often does this happen?) and secondly, I was asked if I would like to leave the box behind and simply put my old shoes into this very cool cloth bag that comes with the purchase. No paper or plastic bag required. It turned out that Fluevog recycles the shoeboxes that are left behind at the store. One day, I hope they decide to reuse them because this would be even cooler.

Lastly, I just love the write-up Fluevog prints on the cloth shoe bags. It captures the essence of their brand and really speaks to me. I’m now a converted fan.

“Always hold on to the truth. Don’t let others sway your heart. Don’t compromise yourself for the sake of temporal groovyness. Be separate from the crowd that’s awash with normality by standing on a firm foundation. Never waver in your love or faith, and in all you do, please wear my shoes.” – John Fluevog.

  1. I totally agree !! I had the same experience (except at Gastown) and being a man I am not an avid shoe shopper either. IN fact until I found Fluevogs, I wasnt big into footwear at all. Now I wear my ‘Vogs with pride and a hint of arrogance.

    Cheers
