Do You Have Buy In?

Everyone who owns a business has good marketing ideas. The implementation can be another matter altogether.

When we sit down with a business owner to discuss or brainstorm a new concept, we take the time necessary to discuss how feasible it is to implement. In our next meeting we revisit the concept. Often, the client’s first question is: “Can you tell me why we are doing this?” There are three reasons why this question comes up:

1. Fear of doing something new or fear of failure

2. Not understanding the benefits of moving forward

3. Lack of buy-in

The third reason, lack of buy-in, is the result of the first two reasons. If the business owner is not excited about the concept and is unable to buy into it, then the idea will most likely fail. This is because it is the owner’s responsibility to believe in the concept and be passionate when communicating it to their team. If the team doesn’t buy into the concept and the game plan, then it will fail.
