Go Big or Goodbye
It had been several years since I drove the highways going north out of Toronto. In spite of my GPS dying before reaching my final destination, it was a good trip. En route to my accommodation spot, I was so focused I didn’t stop at any attractions along the way.
My trip back to the airport was a totally different experience as I was able to enjoy my free upgrade Budget had given me at the onset of this trip. It was a Jetta sedan. It worked well when I wanted to pull over off the highway suddenly and then have to punch the gas to merge back on safely. This made up for the GPS conking out.
One particular attraction that did catch my attention en route was the mondo signage for the “Candy Shoppe” mega-store easily visible from my car. These stores were strategically placed on either side of the highway within a few kilometres of one another. This was helpful as I knew it would be easy for me to stop in for a visit on my way back.
Although the rainbow-coloured signs struck me as somewhat tacky, they were certainly difficult to miss. The brand fits well with the colour candy theme. Yes, I did end up buying a bunch of goodies.
The Candy Shoppe recognized that great locations are only part of its success. In this case, a prominent sign visible from the highway that gives enough notice to be able to slow down and take the next exit is absolutely essential. If the business hadn’t decided to go big, then potential customers would simply drive by without a second thought.
