Risky Business
One week before I was scheduled to head out of town for a speaking engagement, my car battery died. I called BCAA (www.bcaa.com) and they came and jump-started my car. At that time, it was recommended to me that I replace my car battery.
As the story goes; out of sight, out of mind. The battery was working, so I didn’t make it a priority to have it replaced. The day I was scheduled to drive out of town, I got up early to take my daughter to a doctor’s appointment. There I sat, in my car, trying to start the car. Although this was a big drag for my daughter, I was immensely grateful that my car needed its battery replaced at the beginning of the day rather than at the moment I headed out the door to drive to the ferry.
I called BCAA and they came within 30 minutes and had the battery replaced in just over half an hour. The truth is, I was just lucky. If BCAA had been experiencing high call volume for battery replacement requests, I would have been hooped.
I realized that putting off an important task or situation or simply crossing my fingers and hoping I wouldn’t have to deal with it until a later date is risky business. I am grateful of this reminder to deal with small issues before they become big challenges or even catastrophes.
Can you relate? Is there any situation that could potentially have a huge negative impact on your business because you didn’t deal with it earlier?
I hope this personal story ignites some urgency for you to act now rather than deal with the stress and impact of putting out avoidable fires later.
