Web Security Alert

Last week, a business colleague, friend, and past client of mine contacted me. His name was Vaclav Vincalek, from PCIS.com, and he had some important information he wanted to share. PCIS is an IT and security expert in the area of online applications and customized software systems.

I would like to share this e-mail with you:

“Jen, here’s one thing you might want to point out to organizations who are launching a new website. Ask them to consider having their website scanned for web vulnerabilities before it launches. PCIS recently had a non-profit organization come to us with an emergency. By scanning their website we discovered that it was labeled by Google as ‘this site may harm your computer’.”

When this happens, it can have a disastrous effect on an organization. The result can mean no business. This is bad PR. Through PCIS’s experience and research, they discovered that only one in thirty websites is secure – and they are not talking about merely using SSL and firewalls for security. To their dismay, they also found out that most business people don’t fully understand the severity of the problem or even worse, many web developers don’t build secure websites.
