What is the Real Issue?
I had a prospect contact me about needing help with marketing their business. Upon talking to this client about their urgent need to generate more sales for their company, I discovered that marketing was not the issue. In fact, they had done a good job of marketing to drive traffic to their business.
The problem they faced was marketing to attract the right employees. When a small business in the service sector needs people with a specific expertise who are committed to show up and they don’t, this can kill a business. In small communities, reliable, skilled employees can be even more difficult to find.
Take, for example, a massage therapy clinic or spa that employs three or more staff. If a client has an appointment booked and receives a call saying the appointment has to be postponed, this can really damage the reputation of a company. It’s not easy to find a substitute at the last minute in small communities, let alone a large city. Additionally, the customer will likely not want a replacement.
Before you conclude you need help with marketing your company, take a look at the other issues at hand. It is possible that you may have a management issue or a human relations concern that needs to be dealt with before investing in actively marketing your business.
